ClothesIf you need some new clothes, shoes, work done on or in your home, whatever you need, you might be able to get it by swapping something you’ve already got, costing you nothing.

Swaps for holidays
You could consider taking part in a home swap instead of a traditional holiday. Look online for a house swapping website where you list your home and find someone else’s in your chosen destination, in this country or abroard. You may have to pay an annual charge to register so be sure all the family are happy with the idea first.

New clothes
Why not hold a clothes swapping party? Or again, look online for clothes swapping websites.

Books
Obviously the local library is the first port of call for free boks to read, otherwise check out the website ReadItSwapIt. Here you find a book you like in the site’s library, and ask to swap. Another ReadItSwapIt member chooses something of yours, and you do the exchange, it’s easy.

Skills
See if there is a Local Exchange Trading Scheme (LETS) in your community. LETS operates a co-operative model. ‘Offered’ and ‘Wanted’ lists are created, then members swap skills or products in a mutually acceptable way. Look for LETSLinkUK which is the organisation supporting LETS schemes throughout the UK.

Asda has recently begun a similar system, with the introduction of Barter Boards in some of its UK shops.

Alternatively, have a look online at Swapz, Freecycle and SnaffleUp.

I hope this has inspired you to start swapping!
